One thing that I always especially admire is the Higginsville's Parks and Rec Department offerings. They always seem to be taking on projects and developing partnerships that will expand access to quality recreation opportunities for area families. Outdoor play, team sports and family recreation all have such a powerful, positive impact on a child's development. As a person working education, I definitely view the Parks and Rec Department as one of Higginsville's crown jewels."

It is time to welcome our new teachers!
First up, Mrs. Julia Gillilan!
📚Mrs. Gillilan will be teaching 8th Grade ELA & Reading.
🎓She graduated high school in Wildwood, MO from Eureka High School. She attended the University of Central Missouri where she graduated with a B.S. in Middle School Education and a M.S. in Educational Technology.
✏️Mrs. Gillilan is going into her 13th year teaching and is excited to return “home” to teach in Higginsville again. I am married to Zac and together we have 3 kids- Kinley, Grace & Derek. I love spending time with my family first & foremost. Aside from being a mom & teacher, I enjoy attending our church, visiting new places, reading, going for walks, playing/ watching sports, and sitting with friends having good conversation with a hot cup of coffee.
📖When asked why she chose education as a profession, Mrs. Gillilan said, "Starting in high school & into college, I volunteered with youth groups where I worked primarily with middle school students. I loved the bonds created and being a positive influence in their life. As teachers, we all seem to have a specific age group we feel called to work with. I always knew middle school was where I wanted to teach. I also love the feeling that comes with seeing that light bulb go off for students and helping them work toward bettering themselves to eventually becoming productive members of society. I truly love running into former students & seeing the amazing adults they’ve become!"
‼️Fun Fact about Mrs. Gillilan: Favorite Quote: “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream” C.S. Lewis
💙💛Please give a big Husker welcome to Mrs. Julia Gillilan!
